Sunday Worship Update & More
I am still missing you like crazy. I pray you continue to stay healthy, keep strong, and find creative ways to connect with others. With the recent announcements about schools and continued health guidance to avoid mass gatherings, South Elkhorn will not worship in-person in the month of May, and the building will remain closed to groups and visitors. The first Sunday we might return to worship is Sunday, June 7th.
Church leadership will continue to monitor the situation and make adjustments as circumstances shift. Plans are being developed for what worship might look like with phased openings of the economy. For now, worship will continue online (southelkhorncc.org/digital-liturgy) and can be sent in paper form to those who are unable or prefer not to tune in digitally. Weekly zoom communion (11:30 AM Sundays) will also give us a chance to connect with each other and with God in real-time from our homes.
Here are some things I’m looking forward to:
- Youth Sunday, May 17 – I can’t wait to experience worship led by our amazing youth in creative and inspiring ways.
- Honoring our graduates – we will be publishing the names of our graduates soon and you will be encouraged to send them cards and notes. We will also find new ways to honor and celebrate them in worship this May.
- More bell ringing – I am so inspired by all those who have signed up, showed up, and sent the sounds of love and hope into our community (and across social media). There are more spots available if you’d like to join in (sign up here or contact the church office if you are unable to do so with the link).
- Making masks – if you are willing to donate materials for making masks or have skill, interest and the tools to make masks, please contact me or the church office. We’d like to develop a mask ministry for our community and for the likely reality that masks will be needed when we are able to gather again in person for church.
I’m sending you love today, grateful to share this journey with such creative, courageous, and caring people of faith.
Grace to you and Peace,
Michael Swartzentruber
Senior Minister
